Fiona is a 8-9 month old Sheltie mix pup (mom was pure-bred daddy unknown). She now weighs about 27 lbs and we would estimate her full grown weight to be around 35 lbs. The first five months of her life were spent in poor circumstances where she wasnt well- socialized with people. Along with her four siblings, Fiona came to us submissive, and terrified of humans, although never showing signs of aggression. Amazingly, with a relatively short amount of training, a lot of TLC, patience, and understanding, Fiona is learning to trust humans, and is enjoying a normal home life with her foster family. Her foster Mom thinks she is one cutie pie puppy who is full of life and curiosity. She is a total sweetheart, and any family would adore her!!
There are four things Fiona really needs before you think of adopting her. 1 She has to have a fenced in yard with a door opening from the house to the yard. No exceptions. 2 She needs a crate/kennel for her safety and comfort. 3 She needs to have at least one other dog in the family that is willing to connect with her and hopefully play with her. That means the other family dog(s) needs to be accepting of a new puppy, and allow this new puppy to learn the ins-and-outs of your family environment. She needs that animal support from your other dog(s) to help teach her the things only animals can teach each other. She loves all other dogs (cats, too) and is great with them!! 4 She needs a forever home that has family members that are ALL willing to give her that extra bit of grace, understanding, and patience at the beginning to build the trust she will need to be a part of your family.
She is housebroken at her foster home, but to be fair, she is taken out in a fenced in yard 4 times a day on a routine schedule. She does not know, at this time, how to ask to go out, but she has been practicing with a dog door to get the idea to leave the house when it is potty time.
She is very smart and likes to learn new commands (especially when there are treats involved). She is still quite scared when walking on a leash outside; especially with traffic and noise. Her foster mom is working on that with her. The fact that she wants to please and loves to be rewarded makes it such fun to try teaching her new things!
So if you want a puppy, have some patience and are willing to invest in a beautiful, smart, playful girl, Fiona may be just the dog for you! She is up-to-date on shots, heartworm and flea prevention, and is spayed. Fionas adoption fee is $150.00 (CV).
