Max is a very handsome, sweet boy. He is crate-trained, housebroken and used to a dog-door. He will ask for attention and loves to be close to his human(s). Max is sound sensitive, as many Shelties are, and can be a little food aggressive, so it is best that he be fed in his crate to make sure the other dogs don't get pushed away from their own bowls.
He has an eye condition called Micro-ophthalmic, which we believe was once referred to as “Collie eye.” This condition should be monitored from time-to-time. Max appears to be far-sighted and has somewhat diminished night vision, which means he doesn't see objects the same way the other dogs do and that can, on occasion, cause a strange reaction to things like the outside trash can, or grill. Max needs a dog-savvy person who understands that this pretty boy will always be a work in progress. He is smart and has done extremely well on many levels.
Max needs to be in a secure environment (fully-fenced yard with barrier-type material) and would be happy living with a well-socialized older female dog, preferably larger than he is. However, he would also do well as the only dog in his new home, as long as he has plenty of attention from his human(s) and is given a job. He will need a lot of patience from his new alpha people, who must continue to stimulate him by exposing him to new things and situations. He is a great watch-dog and feels it is his job to alert you to the “alien”. He takes his job seriously! Max loves to go for rides and is great in the car. No children under 12 years of age and no cats!
