9/5/2012 - Update! Bodie is doing very well and has an appointment to see an eye specialist for his cateracts. He is up to 14 pounds, and will be a naerly normal dog after surgery. Although it is a pricey surgery, how can we say no to him!? Have you seen the video? That's when he is nearly blind! What a cutie!  We hope he has his surgery and recovered by Jan 1 2013.

7/20/12 - Update from his loving and oh so diligent Foster family:  Bodie is doing great.  He has gained some weight and is up to 13.5 pounds.  His hair is growing back too.  He is unbelievable at how well he does in the yard and house with no sight.  Please see the video of him playing.  Bodie hopes he will be a candidate for cataract surgery; just imagine how playful he will be with eyesight!

Bodie was a severe neglect case from animal control. He had untreated diabetes, which caused major complications:  diabetes mellitus type I, bilateral cataracts (largely reduced vision), cryptorchidism, skin disease, parasite infestation, emaciation, anemia of chronic disease, prostatomegaly (likely benign), and an urinary tract infection.  He also had a heart murmur secondary to extreme dehydration, which has resolved.  The diabetes has been well regulated with Humulin N and Hill's W/D food.  The anemia is resolving and we are treating his UTI.  He is heartworm negative, so we have started him on heartworm and flea prevention.

We are rehabilitating him, but he needs lots of help.

He will need to stay on insulin for the rest of his life and stay on a low carb, high fiber diet.  UTIs will be common.   The cataracts will progress eventually but once he is well regulated, they can be removed surgically by an ophthalmologist.

This dog is very sweet and has been through so much! We all are pulling for him. He is not available for adoption at this time, but hope once he is well he can go to a family who will give him his injections and be dedicated to a life long pursuit of good health.

Height: 14.5 inches, Weight: 9 pounds .. now up to 13.5

Sheltie Rescue of GA, Inc. does not have a shelter. Our dogs are safely housed in foster homes all around the state. Please note, Sheltie Rescue of GA, Inc. does not do out-of-state adoptions.
